Jersey Dairy and the Jersey Football Association are offering free tickets to an England international at Wembley as an incentive to Island children to get active, healthy and improve their ball skills.A competition ‘One Goal’ is being launched on 1% Fat half- litre Milk cartons inviting children to create an exercise using a football and which encourages teamwork. Entries that exhibit ingenuity, the most exercise potential and working together to achieve a common goal, will go into a prize draw to win four tickets to a home international of their choice.
Jersey FA Chief executive Paul Creeden said they were delighted to be associated with an organisation which shared their values.
‘Football in Jersey is not just about playing matches during the season. Membership of the local FA can be a year-round activity for all ages and with particular appeal for families who want to follow healthy lifestyles and who enjoy the beautiful game. Islanders can be part of the Jersey FA whether as a player, coach or administrator or an active supporter of a club. We hope ‘One Goal’ will also raise awareness of the work we do encouraging healthier lifestyles and community involvement,’ he said.
The Managing Director of Jersey Dairy, Eamon Fenlon, said working with the Jersey FA was an ideal opportunity to promote the importance of exercise and the nutritional benefits of dairy products for children.
‘The consumption of low-fat dairy products such as our 1% Fat Milk is acknowledged as making an important contribution to a balanced diet, as they still provide essential nutrients and vitamins but with a lower intake of saturated-fat. Milk also offers a long list of nutritional benefits for sportsmen and women, including protein for muscle growth and repair, carbohydrates for energy, fluid and electrolytes for rehydration, and vitamins and minerals for healthy bones and body. Such properties are even more important when it comes to the healthy development of children,’ he said.
To enter, children are asked to design a training exercise for groups of ten using at least one football and cones to encourage movement, passing and receiving. As well as winning tickets to see England play, they will also get the chance to work with the Jersey FA Development Manager, Brian Oliver, to develop their exercise.
Details of how to enter are available from www.JerseyFA.com/challenge. The competition is open to young Islanders under the age of 18 and the closing date for entries is 31 August.
